The Word Eater by Mary Amato

In the book The Word Eater sixth grader Lerner Chance moves to a new town from Wisconsin. She goes to a new school called Cleavland Park Middle School. There she finds a magical worm named Fip.

Fip eats words instead of dirt like the other worms. When he eats the words they disappear from the world. On an island called Bellitas where Mr.Mack makes Macks Thumbtacks he raises dogs called Attackaterriers to protect the secret training to make thumbtacks camp for kids that are orphans. Fip eats the words Macks Thumbtacks.

Back at Cleavland Park Middle School there is  a club called MPOOE (most powerful ones on earth) and if you are not an MPOOE you are a SLUG (sorry losers under ground). Fip has eaten a lot of other words.

Can Lerner and Fip do some good with Fip's powers to stop bullying at Cleavland Park Middle School? Read on to find out!
